A prized possession

Prized Trunk

This trunk is not only beautiful and patina-ed to perfection, it holds a lifetime worth of treasures inside. I’ve owned it since childhood, thanks to my talented mother with impeccable taste, but more about that later.

Prized Trunk

When I moved out of my parents’ house for the first time, this was the first thing on the truck. It became my well-loved, well-used coffee table at the apartment. It was always front and center of my entertaining, holding plates of snacks and glasses of wine. Little did my guests know that inside lied baby clothes, family heirlooms and quilts. I always got compliments on its uniqueness.

Moving it in to our current house was a thing of joy! It looked right at home immediately. I have moved it around the living room once or twice, but its current spot next to our sofa is my favorite. It’s a great centerpiece that adds a little toughness to our otherwise soft space. Blending the old and the new, different textures and contrasting pieces can really transform your space. I encourage you to check out online resources like Havenly or Pinterest, to get some ideas for your own space!

It’s still one of the first things people notice when they come over and I’m proud to tell them it’s little history. It’s all been refinished with love, down to the sweet cottage wallpaper that lines the interior. When I see it, I’m reminded of a legacy and my mom. I’ll always treasure it.

What pieces in your home do you treasure most? Any with a great story? I’ve also written about other meaningful pieces in our home here if you’re feeling sentimental.

Hey Brit, I loved the story about your coffee table. I used to have something similar. It was just a chair, however. But the chair has survived about 30 years now. It’s really quite sweet. Every so often I repair it just to keep it going. It probably doesn’t have many years left but it reminds me of family members I can no longer see.

You brought a smile to my face today. Thank you so much x
